Farm Hand(s)
Employees will work alongside the manager and fellow employees to carry out day to day farm operations. Work will be shared between outdoor fields, high tunnels, greenhouse, indoor hydroponic growing spaces, and our wash/pack barn. We ask that individuals interested in this position have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, excellent communication skills, time management awareness, reliable transportation, and seek to be part of a highly productive farming operation. Prior growing experience is preferred but all are welcome to apply and will be considered. Folks seeking reliable, year round farming employment, with room to grow, are encouraged to apply.

 

Farm tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Harvesting per orders, washing, packaging, and vehicle loading

  • Intaking deliveries from partner farms and vendors

  • Direct and container sowing

  • Transplanting, watering, weeding, mulching, broadforking, raking, cultivating

  • Staking, trellising, pruning

  • Irrigation

  • Plastic mulch removal

  • Bulk harvesting and packing

  • Participating in our integrated pest management plan and our nutrient management plan

Schedule:

  • Full time: Mondays-Fridays, 7am-3pm

  • Part time: Any days out of Monday-Fridays between the hours of 7am-3pm and/or Saturdays (hours vary)

  • 30 Minute lunch break. Time varies depending on the time of year/day of the week

  • During the height of summer, the schedule shifts to 6am-2pm to beat the heat

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting at $15/hr

  • Weekly vegetable share for full time

  • Bi Weekly vegetable share for part time

  • 40 Hours PTO for PT (20-39 hours per week)

  • 80 Hours PTO for FT (40 hours per week)

Hydroponic Farm Hand(s)

Employees will work alongside the manager and fellow employees to carry out day to day farm operations in our hydroponic growing units. Karma Farm currently operates two units. One is a hydroponic shipping container (Leafy Green Machine) and the second one is a DIY system. The opportunity to work on outdoor production or delivery in combination with hydroponics is available but not required.

 

We ask that individuals interested in this position have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, excellent communication skills, time management awareness, reliable transportation, and seek to be part of a highly productive farming operation. Folks seeking reliable, year round farming employment, with room to grow, are encouraged to apply. Prior growing experience is preferred but all are welcome to apply and will be considered. Training will take a course over a couple of weeks or months depending on the candidate’s background. The opportunity to grow into a management position for the hydroponic sector of the farm is available.

 

Hydroponic Farm tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Seeding

  • Transplanting

  • Harvesting

  • Packaging

  • System cleaning

  • System maintenance

  • Nutrient Management

  • Integrated Pest Management

Schedule:

  • This position requires around 30 hours per week

Delivery Driver

As a delivery driver you will be a familiar face of the farm as you interact with chefs and kitchen staff. The farm provides the vehicle used for delivery, however we ask that employees interested in this position feel comfortable/have experience driving a large vehicle in tight urban spaces. Training alongside the owner, Jon, will take place over a couple of weeks to get you acquainted with the delivery process. The opportunity to work on the farm when not doing deliveries is available but is not required. The delivery driver will be expected to start in Monkton loading the van alongside fellow employees. Once deliveries are made, the driver will come back to Monkton to empty the vehicle of empty crates and delivery bins.


Schedule:

  • 2 days a week

  • Wednesdays: Bethesda, Washington D.C 7:30am-5pm

  • Fridays: Baltimore 9:30am-2:00pm

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively and in tight spaces

  • Valid driving license and a clean driving record

 

Compensation:

  • $18/hr

  • Bi-weekly vegetable share

  • 40 Hours PTO for PT (20-39 hours per week)

  • 80 Hours PTO for FT (40 hours per week)
